Int’l Bytes: DE-CIX, Start Campus, BICS, Sipartech, Ciena, GTT

Several international bits of news from the middle of this week to catch up with:

DE-CIX is officially ready for service at SINES DC in Portugal, extending its reach from nearby Lisbon. Tenants at the carrier neutral facility of Start Campus will be able to tap into DE-CIX’s interconnection footprint directly. SINES DC has access to some 1.2GW of power and is looking to become the pre-eminent digital hub of southwestern Europe.

BICS has announced a new partnership with Cellusys, a leading raoming signaling solutions provider. The collaboration will enable BICS to further enhance its international roaming capabilities. People take that sort of thing for granted these days, but it hasn’t gotten any less complex in the era of 5G.

Sipartech has tapped Ciena to upgrade its submarine footprint. They will be using Ciena’s GeoMesh Extreme capabilities to provide 400GbE on both undersea and terrestrial routes. Specifically mentioned is their piece of Medloop France, which connects Barcelona, Marseille, and Genoa in the Mediterranean. Sipartech operates 34,000km of network across Europe.

And GTT has launched a new Network-as-a-Service technology platform called GTT Envision. They are targeting the connection, orchestration, virtualization, and automation of enterprise networks. They’ll be leveraging GTT’s global network and ecosystem of partners and capabilities to offer enterprises more than the SD-WAN, SSE, SASE and DDoS that currently make up that marketplace.
