A few interesting items to catch up with:

Nokia has picked up a couple of 5G customer wins in the APAC region. In New Zealand, Nokia has been selected by Spark New Zealand as its preferred 5G RAN partner. The deal covers some 700 sites and includes a wide range of gear, enabling Spark to simplify and consolidate its network. Meanwhile, in Vietnam Nokia has won a 5G contract with Viettel Group. The deal will cover some 2500 sites and bring 5G to the country for the first time.

BT Group is diving into the deep end of AI, launching an internal GenAI Gateway platform. The idea is to find ways to tap into the power of large language models and leverages Amazon Bedrock to interface with a host of AI companies. Just what the company’s various groups do with those resources will be something to watch in the year or two ahead. The company says several betas are already live internally.

And a new network engineering company has been born. Atlantic Engineering Group, Fiber Optic Services, and Young’s Communications, LLC, three portfolio companies owned by Grain Management, have combined forces to launch Trueline Infrastructure Solutions. The launch brings together some 400 employees under one roof to focus on design, engineering, construction, and contracting services for the telecommunications and utility industry.
