Fiber Bytes: euNetworks, Lightpath, Kirkwood IG

July 9th, 2026 by · Leave a Comment

Three interesting new regional fiber projects, one by a new name:

euNetworks has built out a new longhaul route between two western European hubs. The new route spans 1057km between Paris and Milan, taking a new diverse path through the Alps instead of running along the coast between France and Italy. This follows last year’s deployment of a shorter route between Frankfurt and Milan via Zurich. Both routes decrease euNetworks latency between FLAP markets and Milan.

Lightpath’s expansion in the Midwest is taking it into Wisconsin and Michigan. They have unveiled new fiber builds to connect two hyperscale data center campuses, one in Saline MI and the other in Port Washington WI. The first will be ready by the end of this year, and the second by mid-2027, and both are backed by an anchor hyperscale customer.

And there is a new fiber infrastructure provider in town in the southern US. Blue Owl Capital has launched Kirkwood Infrastructure Group. They start with the assets of South Reach Networks in Florida and are now also building out 200 miles of conduit and fiber between Shreveport LA and Vicksburg MS. Blue Owl recently sold off Mid-Atlantic-based DF&I to Summit IG, but is clearly not done investing in the infrastructure space.
