Wednesday Bytes: Hylan, GIX, Dartpoints, Sparkle, LiveOak

A few bits of news from around the industry at midweek:

Hylan and Global InterXchange will be working together on the latter’s plans for a metro dark fiber build through the PATH tunnels connecting NYC and New Jersey. Hylan will put its engineering and construction expertise toward the buildout, which when complete will connect 60 Hudson Street and 165 Halsey Street via the southernmost route.

Dartpoints has a new tenant from the education vertical in the southeast. The University of South Carolina has tapped them for a custom software-defined data center solution, replacing their current data center. DartPoints has an extensive footprint in the area, with four data centers in South Carolina.

Sparkle has signed an MOU with the Italian Navy. The two will be cooperating on the security of subsea cable infrastructure in the Mediterranean, sharing operating procedures, pursuing research of common interests, and possibly jointly monitoring the assets. The Italian Navy will also provide cartographic support for the seabed.

And a recently formed southeastern fiber provider has raised $150M. InfraRed Capital Partners is putting the funds into LiveOak Fiber, powering their planned FTTH buildout in both Glynn County, Georgia and Okaloosa County, Florida. The former is on the east coast south of Savannah, while the latter is just east of Pensacola on the Gulf Coast. Construction is expected to begin this quarter.
