Continuing my push to collect publicly available metro fiber maps from all regions of the US, I added two new pages today: Pennsylvania and Upstate NY/Ontario. In Pennsylvania there is actually quite a bit of competitive fiber out there even though TW Telecom is not present anywhere in the state. Obviously the two largest markets of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh get the most attention, however once you get outside those two there are only two: Zayo and Level 3. Zayo’s footprint derives largely from the PPL Telcom purchase, whereas Level 3′s comes mostly from the Telcove acquisition.
Further north in upstate NY and onward into Ontario, there is no major internet hub and therefore there are fewer providers. Basically, the major providers are Fibertech and Level 3 for whom there are maps, and Intellifiber for whom there are not. Note that I’ve added Ontario, i.e. Toronto, to this page for lack of a better location. If I manage to find other Canadian maps I will probably separate them out of course but right now I don’t have them.
Next up: the Midwest not including the Chicago metro area, probably split into the Rust Belt and the Great Plains.
