Five network and infrastructure items from around the globe to catch up with:
Sparkle has some interesting plans to build a diverse route between Europe and Asia. They have signed an MoU with NaiTel and iLevant to extend the GreenMed subsea cable system into and through Jordan. The idea is to land in Aqaba, which is Jordan’s port near the north end of the Red Sea, which offers alternate paths to the Persian Gulf and on to India and such.
NEC has finished of some subsea cable work out in the South Pacific. They have completed the East Micronesia Cable System. ECMS connects Micronesia, Kiribati, and Nauru, replacing satellite connectivity on three islands that have never had subsea cable access. Grant funding for the project came from Australia, Japan, and the USA.
Arelion has expanded its AI connectivity capabilities. They have added 400G Ethernet Virtual Private Line services between their PoPs, global data centers, and cloud regions. The EVPL solution enables customers to automatically reroute around network events in real time.
GTT has released the next generation of its customer gateway, GTT EnvisionDX. Enhancements include real-time quote and order generation for sites around the globe, GenAI-powered address validation, 11M serviceable business addresses, and better security and visibility capabilities.
And BT has picked up a connectivity deal with the arms, security, and aerospace giant BAE Systems. It’s a 5 year contract with an optional additional three years to support BAE Systems’ global network. That infrastructure touches 40 countries, with the most complex needs around the UK of course.
