Three bits of interesting infrastructure development from EMEA.

The country of Libya has opened its first subsea cable landing. O3 Group has launched operations there with the landing of the Medusa submarine cable in the city of Benghazi. They’ll be following up with a data center, an educational effort, and some new national fiber infrastructure. Planned routes include connecting Kufra to the south with extension into Chad. Medusa is an 8,700km system connecting multiple points around the Mediterranean, including a landing in Tripoli that should be ready near the end of 2027.

In East Africa, Hayo is expanding its infrastructure into Tanzania. They have added a new office in Dar es Salaam from which they will support the development, protection, and operation of critical digital infrastructure. The move follows similar expansions into Rwanda, Senegal, Botswana, Liberia, and Malawi over the past year.

And DE-CIX has been busy in southeastern Europe. They have completed a 3-route gateway connecting the region with the Middle East via Turkey. They now have new backbone connectivity in place between BIX.BG in the Bulgarian capita of Sofia and their flagship DE-CIX Frankfurt capita. And they also have a new direct connection between Sofia and DE-CIX Istanbul. Combined with existing routes to Athens and Istanbul, DE-CIX syas it now has three westbound pathways back to Frankfurt.
