Thursday Bytes: Ericsson, Ribbon, TNS, NetIX, Promera

Some vendor and IX news, an IX expansion, and two acquisitions in the data center services biz:

Ericsson’s gear will be getting a workout up in Minnesota. They have partnered with the Metropolitan Airports Commission to deploy a private 5G network at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The dedicated cellular network will provide a connectivity platform across the airport’s 5-square-mile campus, both indoors and outdoors. It will support cameras, connected vehicles, and in the future airlines and concessionaires.

Ribbon and TNS have teamed up to take on the replacement of legacy voice switches. Ribbon’s technology will be incorporated into the TNS Hosted Cloud Connect solution. That will enable a practical modernization path for legacy voice environments that minimizes disruption. They will be targeting independent and rural operators.

NetIX continued its global expansion efforts with a new IX connection in southeast Asia. They have added the Singapore Internet Exchange to their GIX reach. That gives NetIX more than 60 exchanges on their platform and suggests growing interest in connectivity to APAC destinations.

And there was a bit of inorganic activity in the world of data center services. Promera has announced two acquisitions: Formula Facilities Services Ltd and Critical Area Leaning Ltd. Formula and CAC will enable Promera to offer contamination control capabilities from pre-construction through live operations in the UK and Ireland. The deal parallels a similar purhcase for Data Clean Asia in Singapore that got them into Asia.
