Friday Bytes: DE-CIX, Empire, Telinta, Enea

Some IX news, some FTTH, some VoIP, and some cybersecurity:

DE-CIX is taking its IX technology to higher altitude, specifically in the Alps-Adriatic region. They are powering the neutral IX ALPSiX, which is being established by an arm of the Austrian state of Carinthia. That’s the part of Austria bordering Slovenia and the northeastern corner of Italy at the eastern end of the Alps. And they aren’t bothering with data centers up there, it’s all done in edge containers, specifically in the towns of Klagenfurt and Villach. Meanwhile DE-CIX says that during recent European League soccer matches their flagship DE-CIX Frankfurt exchange passed 20Tbps for the first time.

Empire Fiber Internet is making progress on its expansion southward into Pennsylvania. They have launched FTTx services in Berwick, which sits on the Susquehannah near where it crosses I-80. The new network reaches 2,800 homes and businesses and represents an investment of $1.4M.

Telinta and proleneä are teaming up for local number portability. They are pairing Telinta’s cloud-based softswitch with proleneä’s LNP Query Network in order to serve VoIP service providers. Telinta’s softswitch will be able to directly query proleneä’s LNP data that is housed in LA, Dallas, and DC and route calls to the correct carrier.

And DrayTek has tapped Enea to boost its next generation cybersecurity capabilities. DrayTek will be leveraging Enea’s Qosmos ixEngine to add visibility into the applications running on their networks. They also plan to use the Qosmos TD SDK for advanced threat detection and capabilities.
