Tuesday Bytes: MCG, Swyft, Macquarie, AT&T

Two bits of M&A news, some security, and some actual quantum news:

Mission Critical Group is making an inorganic move to better meet the needs for power infrastructure in the data center space. They have entered into an agreement to merge with CORE Transformers, which specializes in engineered-to-order transformers. CORE will continue operating under the same brand and leadership team, while MCG gains a natural extension of its integrated power solutions platform.

Swyft Fiber has completed its purchase of a number of Fastwyre markets in the south central US. The deal covers parts of Louisiana, Texas, and Alabama, boosting Swyft’s footprint and scale across the region. Next up will be an integration process, but local presence, customer service, and technical support will remain in place during all that.

Macquarie Technology Group is looking to improve security for the education vertical. Their Macquarie Cloud Services subsidiary has launched a Security Operations Center capability aimed at the higher education and research sector. It will be available to procure through Australia’s CAUDIT body and will help institutions maintain compliance with all the various frameworks out there.

And AT&T may be dipping its toes deeper into the quantum world. They have signed an agreement to expand use of D-Wave’s quantum computing technology. The deal follows early work using annealing quantum computing technology to reduce processing time for a network optimization workload from an hour to 15 seconds. They hope to take that success and apply it to things like outage detection and response, technician routing, network build planning, and traffic management.
