A data center/energy JV, some mobile infrastructure, and some evolving views on funding AI investments:
PowerBridge and Liberty Energy are teaming up to build a data center campus in West Texas. The two have formed a strategic JV that will leverage PowerBridge’s platform and operations with the power and energy expertise of Liberty Power Innovations. Together they are targeting a 2GW campus to be built in Pecos, which is a three hour drive east from El Paso. The first phase will be 300MW of capacity by the end of 2027.
Up in Alaska, GCI has been boosting connectivity along the state’s road system. Makes sense for a state with so much land and so few routes. They have been investing in mobile infrastructure, expanding LTE and 5G connectivity on key travel corridors. More specifically, they have been upgrading infrastructure between Anchorage and surrounding destinations, including north to Denali Park, Valdez, and Fairbanks and south along Turnagain Arm toward Portage, Cooper Landing, and Hope.
And Capacity has a couple of interesting articles looking at shifts in the financing of all the infrastructure going into AI. On Friday they noted that Meta’s Project Sopaipilla in El Paso with Blackrock is seeing its bonds priced higher than we’ve seen recently. And this morning they took a look at circular financing, which basically means that the financial foundations holding everything up may not be as independent as they ought to be. Everything has gone so fast in this space, with so much money changing hands, it’s worth keeping an eye on.
