EXA Buys GCN

September 6th, 2024 by · Leave a Comment

In addition to the big Verizon/Frontier deal, there was an interesting infrastructure M&A deal yesterday over in southeastern Europe. EXA Infrastructure has agreed to acquire Global Communications Net AD (GCN).

GCN operates a fiber network spanning 2,500km in Bulgaria, including metro depth in the Bulgarian capital Sofia as well as access to multiple ports along the Black Sea. That infrastructure will complement EXA’s pan-European footprint, enabling diverse connectivity to key points not just in Bulgaria, but Turkey, Greece, Romania, Macedonia, Serbia, and Georgia. The combined network will span 155,000km across 37 countries.

Financial details were not disclosed, but the deal is expected to close by the end of this year. EXA has been paying special attention to southeastern Europe and beyond of late, as demonstrated by their work on the TAE across Greece to Turkey and on fiber across Turkey with SOCAR Fiber.
