EXA Turns Up the TAE

October 16th, 2023 by · Leave a Comment

EXA Infrastructure has officially launched the Trans Adriatic Express, further building out the company’s connectivity in southeastern Europe. The TAE connects France with Turkey by leveraging the Trans Adriatic Pipeline AG, which brings natural gas from Turkey across Greece to southern Italy. The result is a newly diverse route between Paris and Istanbul.

Two key network operators are already sending bits along the TAE. The pan-European research and education network GÉANT is using the infrastructure to bring a 100G connection to RASH, the Albanian National Research and Education Network, in time for their TNC annual conference. Meanwhile the Albanian provider Madcom is also leveraging the new connectivity to connect its customers.

EXA is using Infinera’s ICE-6 DWDM technology to light the fiber, which was built along the pipeline across some 900km of terrain. In all the route crosses 4,500km from Marseille to Istanbul.  The only undersea piece is across the Adriatic Sea between Italy and Albania/Greece, hence the name of both pipeline and fiber.
