Wednesday Bytes: Windstream, DataVerge, Megaport, DataBank, STACK

Two bits of data networking news, and two green financing deals:

The Cleveland Guardians have tapped Windstream Enterprise to upgrade their communications infrastructure. Specifically the MLB team will use Windstream’s SD-WAN services to support its office staff, coaches, scouts, and players across eight locations starting with Progressive Field and including minor league stadiums. Data networks have become a key piece of the infrastructure that professional sports need to compete.

DataVerge has a new NaaS option available for its tenants. The Brooklyn NY data center provider has announced a partnership with Megaport, which is expanding its infrastructure into the facility this month. The arrangement will add more cloud connectivity options for NY businesses that don’t start in Manhattan. DataVerge’s facility offers some 50K square feet of space at Industry City in Sunset Park.

DataBank has lined up another $725M in green financing to help with its ongoing expansion. The new credit facility will support ongoing projects in New York, Denver, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, and Dallas and is backed by 14 banks led by TD Securities. DataBank says that AI workloads are leading to demand surges, requiring the acceleration of existing projects. DataBank has a goal of being carbon neutral by 2030.

And STACK Infrastructure has raised some $3.3B in green financing across three projects. The data center infrastructure developer has lined up $1.4B for an expansion in Silicon Valley CA, $750M for upgrades in Loudon County VA, and $1.2B for water-efficient infrastructure and power upgrades in Milan, Italy. ‘Green financing’ is rapidly becoming a key piece of the funding puzzle for infrastructure development around the world.
