A few interesting items from EMEA and beyond:

Salute Mission Critical has made another inorganic move over in Europe. The data center services provider has bought OBMG Ltd, a specialist in commissioning and QA/QC based in Athlone, Ireland. The deal builds on last year’s acquisition of AMS Helix, boosting Salute’s expansion across the Atlantic.

Sparkle has lined up a customer for virtual fibers on the Equiano cable system. The UAE’s Kush Investments has signed on for capacity on the system, which connects Portugal with South Africa as well as various points along the west coast of Africa. The two had already done a deal last June for a virtual fiber on the Blue & Raman cable system from Europe to Djibouti in East Africa.

Nokia says it has built a 400G backbone for du. The UAE network provider is leveraging Nokia’s fifth-generation super-coherent Photonic Service Engine and CDC-F ROADM technology to meet demand from its customers. Meanwhile, Nokia Bell Labs says it set two new world records this past week. They have demonstrated 800Gbps on a single optical wavelength over a span of 7865km, which would handle the path Tokyo-Seattle. They also worked with subsidiary Alcatel Submarine Networks to demonstrate 41Tbps over 291km via C-band unrepeated transmission system.

SUBCO has tapped Ciena to light its way to the Middle East and Europe via the Oman-Australia Cable. They are deploying Ciena’s GeoMesh Extreme technology to increase potential capacity on the cable system to 40Tbps in response to demand. OAC connects the western Australian city of Perth with the Oman capital of Muscat, a span of 9,800km, with a planned extension on to Europe and Africa to be ready sometime next year.
