Five bits of interesting news from around the industry as well as the globe:

Infinera’s optical technology is getting a workout over in Germany. Hetzner Online is deploying Infinera’s ICE6 solution across its national network footprint, giving it access to 600Gbps wavelengths and doubling the capacity of the company’s current network. They will be enabling the company’s new 400GbE services, including the ability to deliver 3x400GbE over two 600Gbps waves.

Liquid Intelligent Technologies has acquired a fiber pair on the Equiano subsea cable. The Equiano cable system will be ready for service later in 2022, connecting destinations from Portugal to South Africa along the west coast of Africa. They plan to integrate the new infrastructure into the company’s pan-African footprint and improve connectivity between Africa and destinations in Asia and the USA.

QTS has achieved Open Internet Exchange certification from Open-IX. 12 QTS data centers across 9 US markets have met the Open-IX standard for data center providers. QTS recently won a big infrastructure deal with Amazon AWS, which will be deploying consolidating infrastructure in its Chicago, Atlanta, and Piscataway facilities.

Lumen has hired itself a new Chief Financial Officer. They have brought in Chris Stansbury, who most recently served in the same role at Arrow Electronics, Inc. Lumen is in the process of divesting its ILEC operations in 20 states to Apollo Funds, which will launch them under the Brightspeed, and its Latin American business to Stonepeak. Hence the new CFO has plenty to work on already.

And DE-CIX has a new IX market in North America. They have officially launched DE-CIX Phoenix, offering interconnection and cloud connectivity to the southwestern US. Their IX fabric is operational at the Phoenix locations of PhoenixNAP and EdgeConneX, with Iron Mountain’s data center in the works and other locations available via partners.
