Some interesting international and subsea items worth noting from this week:

GCX has tapped Pioneer Consulting to evaluate the current state of its global subsea assets. Pioneer has reported that even GCX’s older systems are in great shape, with at least 5 more years of lifespan added onto the usual 25 years. GCX operates multiple systems, including FA-1, FNAL, NACS, WACS, FALCON, and HAWK, and after gaining independence from its former parent Reliance the company is looking to make better use of its asset base.

Big Data Exchange has expanded its capacity in Singapore. They have completed the first phase of an upgrade at SIN1, a facility they just acquired last year. They have now added 2MW of capacity out of a total of 8MW they will add this year to bring the facility’s total to 14MW. BDx will use the additional power to meet demand for carrier neutral data center space in Singapore and the surrounding region.

Seaborn Network has won over some Brazilian business. Webby Internet, a broadband operator that serves the states of São Paulo, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul, has tapped Seaborn for international connectivity. Webby’s backbone reaches 100 cities and stretches 2,500km, and will be able to take advantage of Seaborn’s Seabras-1 and AMX-1 cables.

Colt has expanded its IQ Network with a new PoP in the Netherlands. They have expanded into the Smartdc facility in Rotterdam in partnership with i3D.net. i3D.net will use Colt’s infrastructure and SDN-based services to enhance its gaming platforms. Colt entered Rotterdam and other Dutch markets last summer.

Hurricane Electric’s ever ongoing IPv4/IPv6 network expansion reached a new country yesterday. HE has deployed a new PoP in Slovenia at Telemach Ljubljana at 49 Brnciceva. It’s HE’s 7th PoP in the region, and will enable the company to meet the connectivity needs of the IT enterprise market there.
