Sparkle Taps Curie For More Bandwidth

May 6th, 2020 by · Leave a Comment

Google’s Curie cable system is going to be carrying some Italian bits. Sparkle, the international arm of Italy-based TIM Group, has invested in a fiber pair on the submarine cable.

Curie connects Los Angeles, California with Valparaiso down in Chile, with a branch over to Balboa in Panama. Its construction was completed late in 2019, and has been expected to start carrying live traffic this spring. It contains 4 fiber pairs, each designed to initially carry as much as 18Tbps for a total of 72Tbps.

The addition of a fiber pair on Curie will complement the one Sparkle purchased on Seabras-1, giving them a full fiber pair along both the east and west coasts of South America.  Those highways are of course just a piece of their overala connectivity throughout Latin America.
