Colo Bytes 12/4: Windstream, Equinix, CoreSite, Interxion

December 4th, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Time for a quick roundup from the colocation sector, with new facilities for Windstream and Equinix, automation enhancements for CoreSite, and a new fiber network tenant for Interxion.

The Hosted Solutions division of Windstream (NYSE:WIN, news, filings) is planning to add another data center to its inventory. They’re adding 21,000 square feet in Nashville, which Data Center Knowledge says is being built by Compass.  Nashville isn’t one of the big carrier hotel destinations, but it fits well with Windstream’s main fiber footprint and enterprise strategy within it.  The new build is expected to open in 2013, joining other recent additions in McLean, Virginia and Little Rock, Arkansas.

Equinix (NASDAQ:EQIX, news, filings) has now formally opened its new IBX down in Florida. MI-3 is actually in nearby Boca Raton rather than Miami itself, and features 31,300 square feet of floor space and low latency connectivity to Latin America — particularly via GlobeNet, which lands in Boca Raton of course. Customers already deploying in the facility include Allied Fiber, Cogent, FiberLight, Inteliquent, Neutrona, Sidera, and tw telecom.

CoreSite (NYSE:COR, news, filings) is beefing up the services side of its business. Yesterday ServiceNow announced their cloud-based IT automation services will be a key component of CoreSite’s customer life cycle. Over the past few months, CoreSite has been enhancing its overall ecosystem, adding more connectivity both via additional fiber routes and relationships with internet exchanges.

And across the Atlantic, Interxion added a new fiber network tenant in its DUB-2 facility in Ireland. ESB Telecoms, the which operates both fiber and towers across Ireland following the energy infrastructure of its parent, is adding a PoP there to its existing one in DUB-1. I haven’t run into ESB Telecoms in the past, but I have now added their network map link to my European network maps page.
