The IRS Deals the REIT Revolution an Ambiguous Blow

As disclosed by Equinix (NASDAQ:EQIX, news, filings) this morning, the IRS says it has convened an internal working group to study what constitutes “real estate” when it comes to classifying assets in the context of REITs. Equinix has been working toward a conversion of its business into a REIT, and based on the analyst and pre-market response, the wind has just shifted in an unfavorable direction. [Read more →]

Clearwire Postpones Vote In Wake of Dish’s Bid

Well they didn’t really have an alternative, so it came as no surprise that clwr postponed the vote on its proposed sale to Sprint for $3.40 per share. Softbank, Sprint, US Reach Deal on Security

Apparently it is in fact ok for a US ally to own one of the country’s larger telecom companies. Softbank, Sprint-Nextel, and the US government have apparently come to terms on a security agreement that when finalized will clear one more hurdle out of the path to closing Softbank’s purchase of 70% of the wireless carrier.
