Tuesday Bytes: Telxius, Nokia, Macquarie, Ericsson

Four interesting network upgrade projects:

Telxius has tapped Nokia for a terrestrial network upgrade. They will be deploying Nokia’s ICE-X 800G ZR/ZR+ coherent pluggable technology as it evolves its infrastructure with nextgen IPoDWDM. The upgrade follows a similar ICE-X deployment on the BRUSA subsea cable, moving onto land. Telxius is seeking lower power consumption, better space utilization, and a lower cost of network expansion.

Nokia will also be busy helping with security in Spain. ESpanix has deployed Nokia’s Deepfield Defender to protect its internet exchange infrastructure. The AI-driven DDoS capability will be available to the company’s network partners as a value-added service. The deal is an expansion on an existing partnership under which Espanix added 400G connectivity last year.

Macquarie has picked up a customer in the world of waste management down under. Cleanaway has tapped Macquarie Telecom for a large-scale SD-WAN deployment. Cleanaway operates a 6200-string vehicle fleet across 350 sites throughout Australia. Some 25 sites are already active, and the full rollout should be done by April 2027.

And Ericsson has picked up some wireless work in rural Kansas. Nex-Tech Wireless and Ericsson have announced a 4-year network modernization agreement that will upgrade 85% of the former’s RAN footprint. The result wil be a 5G standalone core that brings advanced services beyond the major metros and out into the surrounding regions.
