Monday Roundup: Aligned, DE-CIX, Nokia, Planters

A new data center project, a new IX, and some rural broadband expansion:

Aligned Data Centers has broken ground on a giant new data center campus in western Pennsylvania. It will be called “Project Phoenix” and will bring 2GW of capacity across 3 facilities in the town of Shippingport. That’s on the Ohio River about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh near the border with Ohio. It also happens to be the home of the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station, which earlier this year announced an expansion and a deal with Meta.

DE-CIX continued to expand its IX reach on a global scale with a new strategic partnership. They are teaming up with AzerTelecom to launch AZE-IX in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku. The new internet exchange will enable network operators in the region to keep traffic local in a region that gets little global network attention. It’s also part of NEQSOL Holding’s (AzerTelecom’s parent) Digital Silk Way project.

And Nokia’s technology will be getting a workout in southeastern Georgia. Planters Broadband Coopertive has picked Nokia to help implement new AI-ready fiber network in the region just northwest of Savannah, including Screven, Effingham, Jenkins, and Burke Counties. It’s a BEAD project and will leverage Nokia’s Lightspan MF-2 access platform and Altiplano Access Controller. Nokia partner KGPCo will supply systems integration expertise to make it all happen.
