Monday Bytes: RETN, Boldyn, APLD, Algocell

Some subsea, some private wireless, some data center, and some AI:

RETN’s global expansion plans have taken deeper into the APAC region again with a new subsea cable investment. They have launched a new subsea route into Taiwan, giving them six diverse options. Two connect Taipei to Tokyo and the other four to Hong Kong. The global backbone operator is looking to add resilience to its infrastructure, particularly in choke points where disruptions could have the greatest effect.

Boldyn Networks will be deploying another private wireless network for an airport. Ontario International Airport in southern California will use the dedicated infrastructure to support passenger volumes of more than 7 million annually. ONT isn’t LAX, but it does cover some 1,700 acres and is a key piece of the region’s transportation infrastructure.

Applied Digital has announced plans to invest some serious dollars in the deep south. They will be putting the previously disclosed Delta Forge 2 AI Factory campus into Brookwood, Alabama. That’s in Tuscaloosa County about an hour southwest of Birmingham. The $3.2B project is expected to begin operations in 2028 and will support some 210MW of critical ID load and 1.26M square feet across 160 acres. The site itself is some 1,300 acres, so they have plenty of room for expansion later.

And AI may be making inroads into wireless network operations in a big way. Algocell says it has delivered 1Tbps of additional daily network capacity in a live trial with an unnamed Tier-1 US Carrier. The live network trial operated across 60+ sites in a major metro area and also in a rural market, unlocking additional capacity without new hardware.
