Wednesday Roundup: Ciena, Quantum Corridor, Adtran, MCG, Taara, Liquid

Some quantum, some PON, some M&A, and some light:

Quantum Corridor, Ciena and Toshiba have made some progress on quantum-safe networking out in Indiana. They completed a 1.6Tbps trial leveraging Ciena’s WL6e technology qith Toshiba’s QKD solution on Quantum Corridor’s live production network between Chicago IL and Hammond IN. Customers are already deploying Ciena’s WL5e 800G encryption solution.

Adtran has been busy over in Japan. They have conducted a 50G PON trial on TOHKnet’s live network, validating the operation of 50G PON, XGS-PON, and EPON on the same fiber network. The trial was conducted in the city of Sendai and leveraged Adtran’s SDX 6400 Series OLT. TOHKnet is looking at future upgrade paths for its last mile architecture.

Mission Critical Group has made an inorganic move to boost its automation capabilities. They have acquired Anchor Automation, which is based out of Florence, South Carolina. Anchor Automation’s field teams will expand MCG’s own reach and capability when it comes to the data center, manufacturing, and energy infrstructure. It’s MCG’s 2nd deal in a couple weeks, following their merger announcement with CORE Transformers.

And in Africa, Google Moonshot graduate Taara is collaborating with Liquid Intelligent Technologies. They are helping distribute bandwidth from Liquid’s PoPs at Africa Data Centers and other facilities in Nigeria to large enterprises. Specifically to places either beyond the current reach of fiber or to areas where fiber cuts are hard to restore by using highly focused beans of light directly through the air. Liquid has deployed nearly a dozen links across Lagos.
