Three from overseas and one from the US:
Ciena has won another subsea deal for its WL6e gear. ION Network will be leveraging Ciena’s technology and supporting systems on its new ION Cable System 1. The system connects Jakarta to Singapore with 2,000km of subsea and protected terrestrial fiber, and will deliver up to 24Tbps of end-to-end capacity. The cable is expected to be live by the end of this year.
South Africa may have a brand new national 5G option soon. Comsol has announced its intention to build out a 5G-Advanced fixed wireless network targeting the home broadband market. They aim to spread some 2K base stations across the country and offer a wholesale solution. The move is backed by Platform Investment Partners and Wimsey Capital.
SUBCO is working through a couple faults in its cables near Perth, Australia. Reports say that both Indigo West and Indigo Central have developed shunt faults within the Perth Submarine Cable Protection Zone. The company hasn’t explicitly blamed anyone yet, but has pointed to vessel activity nearby at the time both faults occurred. Repairs are underway with completion expected later this month.
