Some new terrestrial fiber far away, a new FTTx market back home, a bit of M&A, and some cloud interconnection south of the border:

Seacom has rolled out some new terrestrial infrastructure in east Africa. They have launched a network route between Nairobi, Kenya and Kampala, Uganda and helps build a better pathway to Rwanda and Burundi and South Sudan as well. It’s actually two parallel routes set up in a ring, leveraging both the A104 corridor and an alternative path via Narok, Kericho, and Kisumu. It has a latency of 7ms to Nairobi and 13ms out to the subsea landing stations at Mombasa.

Archtop Fiber has found a new market in upstate New York to expand into. They are now building FTTx infrastructure in Sand Lake, a town of 8K that sits halfway betwen Albany and the Massachussets border to the east. They will be connecting the first homes and businesses later this summer. Archtop has been steadily building out throughout the Hudson Valley region for a number of years now.

Sertex has made an inorganic move up in the far northeast. They have announced the acquisition of Trenchworks, Inc., which specializes in both aerial and underground fiberoptic infrastructure deployment. The deal expands Sertex’s ability to build out infrastructure in Maine, giving them both the experienced teams and the equipment to make happen the projects they are working on up there. Sertex is building out 450 route miles for the MOOSENet fiber network.

And DE-CIX continues to see demand down in Mexico and is expanding its capabilities accordingly. They have expanded their cloud exchange capabilities with direct access to Google Cloud, adding to their connectivity to both Microsoft Azure and AWS. DE-CIX Mexico has only been around a bit over a year, and has been seeing rapid traffic growth.
