Five interesting bits of network and infrastructure news from around the globe, none of which lean on AI for once:

There might be a bit of interesting M&A going on over in Europe. Indigo Telecom is officially talking with EXA Infrastructure’s Aqua Comms subsidiary about a deal. They might be buying the NOC in Newcastle in the UK. Indigo already operates global NOCs in Denver, Colorado and in Mago, Wales, and would look to expand its capabilities further while continuing to support Aqua Comms’ customers.

Sparkle is teaming up with Entel Bolivia to reach deep into South America. The two have signed a MoU to commercialize a 4,370km terrestrial route from the Pacific to the Atlantic that passes through Bolivia, shortening the path between Lima, Peru and Sao Paolo Brazil. Latency on the route is said to be half that taking the traditional submarine routes.

Ciena’s subsea technology will be getting a workout in southeast Asia. Matrix Networks and NAP Info have activated Ciena’s GeoMesh Extreme solution across the Batam-Jakarta segment of the Matrix Cable System. The deployment enables 1Tbps per wavelength across the 1,055km link between Singapore and Indonesia’s digital hubs.

GTT has picked up another international managed services contract. Robertet Group will be using their SD-WAN, SASE, and cloud connectivity solutions to hook up its operations around the world. Robertet specializes in fragrances, flavors, and natural raw materials, which it sources and processes from around the globe.

And the African nation of the the Democratic Republic of the Congo has itself a distributed IX. UNITED S.A. and DE-CIX have teamed up to expand the Africa Congo Internet Exchange into OADC Texaf’s new FIH1 data center in Kinshasa, giving it two locations. DE-CIX operates the IX on behalf of ‘Internet pour tous’, offering the ability for networks in equatorial Africa the ability to exchange data more easily and with les latency.
