After this part of the US had a cold, wet Memorial Day weekend, let’s catch up on some news from around the world:
Ciena’s gear will be getting some work under the waves in Indonesia. Biznet has deployed their WL5e gear on the international link of BNCS-1, which connects the islands of Java, Sumatra, and Bangka. The upgrade, which was supported by Ciena partner Terrabit Networks, will enable 400G services regionally while upgrading total capacity on the key Batam-Singapore link.
Indigo Telecom Group has picked up a contract to support Trans Pacific Networks’ infrastructure. TPN is an operator and manager of Echo, which connects Singapore and Indonesia to the US via Guam, and has a fiber pair on the Tabua cable system between Australia and the US via Fiji. Indigo will provide NOC services and operational support.
RETN has expanded its network depth in southern Europe. They have added a new PoP in Barcelona, Spain, and added a new path from there over to Milan, Italy. They are taking a water route, leveraging the 2Africa cable across the sea to Genoa. The path from Barcelona to Madrid leverage gas pipelines, giving RETN some interesting diversity in the region.
And CityFibre has a new arrangement with Building Digital UK. The provider and government entity have agreed to changes to Project Gigabit that will add another 300K hard-to-reach premises to connect across nine projects. That will be in addition to the 150K already delivered. The 9 markets covered by the updated award are Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Hampshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire, East and West Sussex, Kent, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes, and East Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.
