Four interesting network expansion projects from this week to catch up with, now that ITW week is coming to a close.
DC BLOX has finished its dark fiber build in the southeastern US. The unique route connects the company’s Myrtle Beach CLS with 56 Marietta and other Atlanta data centers. In addition to backhaul from subsea cables, the route can also be combined with Windstream’s Beach Route to provide a diverse path between Atlanta and Norther Virginia. DC BLOX is also working on a dark fiber ring around Atlanta itself.
FiberLight has extended its fiber to a key destination down in southeastern Virginia. They have added a new PoP at Globalinx’s data center and cable landing station in Virginia Beach. From there they can provide 400Gbps connectivity back to northern Virginia as well as serve enterprises and government agencies in and around Hampton Roads and Virginia Beach.
BT Group has expanded its global network in North America with the help of Cologix. Through a strategic collaboration they have established four new PoPs in Canada. More specifically, they can now offer NaaS services from TOR1 in Toronto, MTL7 in Montreal, and both VAN1 and VAN2 in Vancouver. From each they also have easy on-ramps to a wide variety of cloud infrastructure.
And EXA Infrastructure has expanded its terrestrial reach in North America. They have added a new route between Northern Virginia and Atlanta, which is a new market for them. The expansion takes the western route along the Appalachians rather than the I-95 corridor, and is lit with Ciena’s gear with capability up to 400Gbps. EXA seems ready to expand its infrastructure into additional markets in North America going forward.
