Thursday Roundup: Ciena, Telehouse, Nokia, MetTel

More news from around the industry from this week:

Ciena’s gear has been deployed in a research and education context over in east Asia. The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information has launched a 600G national network powered by Ciena’s WL5e 800Gbps coherent technology. The KREONET network connects 200 institutions around the country, and the companies believe it is the first 600G long distance deployment in Asia.

Earlier this week Telehouse quietly made an expansion move in Canada. They have launched a new subsidiary, Telehouse Canada, to better meet the needs of the country’s markets. The move follows a deal by its parent KDDI for three Toronto data centers from Allied Properties REIT 10 months ago. The possibility of followup deals for more Canadian data center assets to continue to build the platform seems significant.

Nokia and Australia’s NBN are demonstrating PON connections of not just 10G and 25G, but also even 50G and 100G over the latter’s fiber acces platform. The trial leverages Nokia’s MF-14 fiber access platform, looking at what comes after today’s XGS-PON implementations. Just what a household might need 100G for is an interesting question, but technology marches on regardless.

And MetTel has picked up another bit of federal business. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has awarded the operator a 5-year, $14.6M deal via GSA Schedule 70. MetTel will provide the CFPB with mobility services, including their Mobile Device as a Service (MDaaS) solution and other related managed services.
