Light Source Plans New Phoenix Fiber Build

March 14th, 2024 by · Leave a Comment

Light Source Communications has won some backing for a new dark fiber route out in Arizona. With an unnamed global hyperscale anchor tenant in place, they have begun building a 140 mile route in the Phoenix metro area.

The buildout will hook up key nodes in nine cities with underground conduit and high fiber count cables. It will circle the campuses of both Arizona State University at Tempe and the University of Arizona and connect to key data centers in the area as well.  The Phoenix data center market is extensive, with 70+ destinations to hook up.

Light Source is partnering with the contractor Primoris Service Corporation to help with the engineering, procurement, and construction for the project. Construction will begin in Q3 and the route should be ready by the end of next year.
