Three vendor announcements and a data center collaboration:

Nokia and Orange have been busy putting 800G through some more tests. They recently claimed a new speed record, attaining a 800Gbps transmission across the 6,600km Dunant subsea network. The demo leveraged Nokia PSE-6 super coherent optics within their 1830 PSI-M platform. Orange is looking to support 400GE and 800GE nextgen services in response to the demands of traffic growth.

Ericsson and AT&T have signed a new strategic agreement for O-RAN that could be worth as much as $14B. The two are collaborating on an O-RAN-based network project in the US that will span the next 5 years. Ericsson will produce gear for the deal at its recently expanded location in Lewisville TX.

Cisco has upgraded its security portfolio with some AI help. They have unveiled AI Assistant, which will help enterprises evaluate and respond to threats to their networks and data. In particular, Cisco’s AI effort will start by targeting firewall policy and visibility.

Africa Data Centres has lined up a new ecosystem partner. iOCO, the ICT division of EOH Group, will be leveraging ADC’s data center footprint to expand its digital transformation services in Africa. ADC operates facilities in Nigeria, Kenya, and of course South Africa.
