Four interesting bits of upgrade and expansion news from around the world to keep up with:

Infinera has picked up another customer upgrade project over in Europe as of this morning. The webhosting specialists at IONOS will be leveraging Infinera’s GX G30 solution to interconnect their data centers across the continent with 100GbE and 400GbE. IONOS anticipates lower power per bit on its transport network with an eye toward its sustainability goals.

Macquarie Data Centres is adding more capacity to its portfolio down in Sydney, Australia. They are boosting power to their new IC3 Super West facility from 32MW to 45MW in response to demand from rising AI workloads. The additional investment in Sydney’s North Zone follows Macquarie’s A$160M capital raise a couple months ago.

Scala Data Centers is expanding down into Mexico for the first time. They have unveiled plans to invest $80M in a hyperscale facility in Tepotzotlán, just 25 miles fro Mexico City. The facility, to be named SMEXTP01, will have floor space of 13,200 square meters and an initial capacity of 5MW with upgrade potential to 7.9MW. Scala already has expansion projects underway in Brazil and Chile with other plans in the works for Colombia as well.

And CityFibre says its fiber network now passes 3M premises, an increase of a million in just under one year. The company is now 5 years into its access network buildout, and says that in its more mature markets is approaching a penetration of 30%. They will also have XGS-PON deployed to more than 90% of its fiber exchanges.
