Unite Private Networks has a new metro market in mind, and it’s not within their usual midwestern and southwestern territory. Yesterday they announced an expansion of their footprint into Augusta GA.
UPN’s plans call for 90 route miles of fiber bringing 5,200 buildings within range of a fiber connection. UPN will offer an array of lit services to customers in the city. The company will also establish a network hub and a local operations team in the city. Augusta is perhaps most known for hosting the Masters golf tournament each year.
It’s not UPN’s first foray into Georgia, as they have some fiber in Gainesville and in Warner Robins according to the company’s interactive map. I believe those derive from past e-Rate projects, but in general Georgia hasn’t been the site of recent investments, certainly. More recently, UPN expanded its Texas footprint into markets like Waco TX, Lawrence KS, and Colorado Springs CO.
UPN is majority owned by Cox Communications and Ridgemont Equity Partners.
