Some new executives, some new money, some new DWDM, and a deal closure:
Ciena has made a bunch of executive promotions this week. Joe Cumello will now be SVP and GM of Blue Planet, while Rebecca Smith will take over his previous role as SVP Global Marketing & Communications for Ciena asa whole. Meanwhile, David M. Rothenstein is their new chief strategy officer and corporate secretary, while Sheela Kosaraju will take over as SVP and general counsel as well as serving as assistant secretary.
Extenet has itself a new Chief Resource Officer. Scott Pomykalski will be leading their customer acquisition efforts, moving over Nokia. Extenet has been remaking itself over the last year under new CEO Rich Coyle, and it is looking to maintain that momentum when it comes to organic growth trends.
Forward Networks has raised $50M in a new series D funding round. Those funds will go toward sustaining the company’s growth trends, which hit 139% YoY in 2022. Forward Networks provides digital twin network modeling software for large wireless networks. The funding round was led by MSD Partners and included several new investors alongside additional investments from existing backers.
Bluebird Network has completed its acquisition of regional fiber assets from Missouri Telecom Inc. The deal boosts Bluebird’s footprint in southwestern Missouri, adding three new PoPs while offering greater services within the cities of Mount Vernon, Monett, Nevada, and Aurora. It’s not far from Bluebird’s core infrastructure, including that underground data enter in Springfield, so the integration probably won’t take too much effort.
Padtec has launched a new DWDM solution aimed at the little guy. It’s a standalone dual transponder enabled by SDN that offers 400G/800G over short and medium distances. It leverages QSFP-DD pluggle models in the OpenZR+ standard, and enables providers to use already existing switch/router infrastructure.
