Orange Taps Equinix to Expand Telco Cloud Footprint

August 31st, 2022 by · Leave a Comment

Two industry giants are leveraging advances in software defined networking and automation in general to deepen their relationship. Orange has expanded its telco cloud footprint by leveraging Equinix’s Bare Metal as a Service capabilities.

The expansion gives Orange’s telco cloud new reach into three markets: Amsterdam and Madrid over in Europe as well as Seattle on the west coast of the US. It’s part of Orange’s plan to build out 100 Telco Cloud PoPs, from which it can deliver SD-WAN, CDN, 5G roaming, and voice with latency below 10ms.
They have deployed some 40 so far.

The two companies have been working on the project over the past year, and hope that it paves the way to further expansions in other key markets. Obviously both companies are in more than those three markets together, so they might be able to ramp things up pretty quickly.
