Two network expansions, a new credit facility, and a technology upgrade:
Sparkle is stretching deeper in to eastern Europe. The global backbone operator has established its first point of presence in Poland. From its new PoP in Warsaw they hope to tap into the growing demand for international connectivity in the region. Sparkle still has room to expand to the northeast into the Baltics and Finland should the opportunity arise.
ZenFi has tapped the credit markets as it gears up for further fiber buildouts throughout the region. The New York/New Jersey fiber infrastructure provider has secured a $175M senior secured credit facility led by TD Securities, Regions Securities, and Societe Generale. Bank Street advised ZenFi on the deal. ZenFi’s buildout for LinkNYC in support of both public WiFi and 5G backhaul will have them digging up the streets in all 5 boroughs for a while.
Hurricane Electric has found another corner of the interconnection world to build out to. They have connected their backbone to the Albanian Neutral Internet eXchange in Tirana, Albania. ANIX is managed by Rome-based Namex. The expansion will reduce latency and enable more robust IP transit options for customers in southeastern Europe .
And DZS has lined up some Italian business for its XGS-PON technology. Convergenze S.p.A. Società Benefit will be deploying their gear over existing FTTH infrastructure in southern Italy, where they have some 21K residential, business, and wholesale customers. The upgrade will enable connectivity up to 10G. Convergenze is headquartered in Capccio Paestrum in the province of Salerno, which lies along the coast south of Naples.
