Four bits of news in the data center space to keep up with:
DataBank announced a new project in northern Virginia this week. The national colo, interconnection, and managed cloud provider broke ground on a 200,000 square foot data center in in Ashburn adjacent to its current location there. IAD3 will start with 4MW of power, expandable to as much as 40MW, and will be ready in Q1 of 2023. That will eventually nearly triple DataBank’s total footprint in the region.
Bluebird Network says it now has two internet exchanges operating within its data center footprint. Within their Underground Data Center in Springfield MO is SpringIX, which is connected over to KCIX in Kansas City. Meanwhile in their Quad Cities Data Center in Bettendorf IA they have QCIX, which boasts 47 peers and 10 carriers in the process of connecting.
Cologix has officially added a fourth facility in Vancouver, to be unoriginally called VAN4. They have completed the purchase of the interconnection facility at 175 West Cordova in the city’s Gastown District. The transaction adds 68K square feet of space downtown. Cologix plans to connect the new facility with its existing three locations via dark fiber. Cascadia Gateway is working to bring in the company’s fiber network and Asia-Pacific gateway.
And Digital Realty will be boosting its interconnection options in the Asia Pacific region with the help of Ciena. They will be leveraging Ciena’s DCI solutions to help power their PlatformDIGITAL efforts in Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Sydney. The solution includes implementation of Ciena’s 6500 Reconfigurable Line System, Waveserver Ai compact interconnect platform, and MCP domain controller.
