Wednesday Bytes: Infinera, Sparkle, STL, Facebook, DartPoints, TMGcore, GPC

Several items of vendor deployments and new product development worth keeping up with:  Infinera’s ICE6 solutions have picked up another win. Sparkle has selected the 800G-capable technology for its Nibble backbone in Europe and the Mediterranean. Afer successful trials on the Catania-Milan and Rome-Milan routes for 500Gbps over 2,136km and 700Gbps/858km, Sparkle will deploy the tech more broadly, enabling 400GbE services over existing infrastructure and a capacity boost of as much as 54%.

STL and Facebook Connectivity have teamed up for some wireless connectivity as part of the latter’s Evenstar program. The two are working together to develop 4G and 5G radios for Open RAN, with STL looking to build two advanced, high-power macro radio products: an O-RAN compliant radio for high capacity in dense deployments and an O-RAN compliant 4G+5G dual technology radio. Facebook Connectivity’s Evenstar program is aimed squarely at accelerating the development of the Open RAN ecosystem.

DartPoints is deploying TMGcore’s technology across its edge data center footprint. They are putting TMBcore’s modular two-phase liquid immersion cooling solution to work at 11 locations, both rural and urban. They hope that the deployment enables customers to better scale high performance computing out at the edge by allowing zero water usage, 3kw per square foot, and a PUE as low as 1.028.

And Great Plains Communications has added another security capability to its portfolio. The midwestern fiber and network opertor has introduced a DDoS protection service to the enterprise community it serves. This follows closely on last week’s network expansion announcement in southern Indiana and over to Cincinnati, where GPC extended its reach to 600 new homes and businesses with plans for gigabit-speed fiber deployments aimed at 2022.
