DF&I Plans Expansion Deeper Into Northern Virginia, Taps Hylan

April 22nd, 2021 by · Leave a Comment

Today Dark Fiber & Infrastructure has offered up an update on its buildout in northern Virginia and Maryland. They are finishing up one project while planning a new one, bringing new conduit and fiber to one of the world’s busiest infrastructure markets.

DF&I says that by summertime this year they will complete their alternative route into Ashburn from Tierpoint’s facility in Linthicum Heights, Maryland. The route takes a new path across the Potomac River and around the northern edge of the District of Columbia, adding needed diversity to the region.

Meanwhile, they have already kicked off construction of an 85-route-mile expansion south from Ashburn. The new 12-conduit system will provide loops connecting Arcola, around Dulles Airport, and on to Gainesville, Haymarket, and Manassas. The new infrastructure will connect up other nearby data center markets with the giant cluster in and around Ashburn itself, tying more of northern Virginia’s infrastructure markets together.

DF&I will be working with Hylan’s Down Under Construction division to build the new underground conduit and fiber system.  It’s an expansion of a long term relationship, as Hylan was also a big part of the build DF&I is finishing up, of course.
