A couple infrastructure upgrades, a win in the cloud, and a new sustainability effort:

Ciena has picked up some wireless backhaulbusiness over at Windstream. The Arkansas-based national network operator is looking to modernize its FTTT infrastructure in preparation for widespread 5G deployments. They are deploying Ciena gear to empower 10G ports at towers and 100G handoffs at switching offices across much of their territory. Along with the gear, of course, comes Ciena’s software for network management etc.

Bluebird has completed a major expansion of the company’s Underground Data Center in Springfield, Missouri. The $11.5M buildout has been in-process for just under a year, and adds another 11,500 square feet of white space as well as power capacity and other upgrades. The unique data center was built underground within a former limestone quarry, and there’s lots more room down there to expand into should they need it.

Orange Business Services has won a convert to its global cloud solutions. Cecurity.com has chosen the company’s Flexible Engine infrastructure-as-a-service solution to underly its digital safe solutions. Cecurity has a significant footprint in the Benelux region, and has in part chosen to host its solutions through a French agreement to keep European regulators happy given that it stores sensitive data for firms across a wide range of the European enterprise marketplace.

And a new strategic partnership is taking aim at sustainable open source data center infrastructure. The European data center operator maincubes, the technology solution provider Circle B, and the ‘Circular Cloud’ leader IT Renew are teaming up to help steer the industry’s next generation of infrastructure. The three will look to leverage the principles and technology of the Open Compute Project, bringing the lessons learned by the hyperscale community to the rest of the sector.
