Colo Bytes: EdgeConneX, Stream Data Centers, Interxion

Three interesting bits of data center expansion to make note of:

EdgeConneX has announced the expansion of its footprint up in Portland, Oregon. They are expanding the Portland Edge Data Center in response to demand, with Portland 02 adding 6MW of capacity now and Portland 03 in the early planning stages to bring the total campus capacity to more than 30MW. The Hillsboro/Portland area is gaining momentum, combining key submarine cable landing stations with cheap, green hydroelectric power.

Interxion is preparing to add yet more to its footprint in Frankfurt, Germany. The subsidiary of Digital Realty has acquired the freehold to the land under the Hanauer Landstrasse campus that houses nine of its data centers. Meanwhile they have acquired 107K square meters of land about one kilometer away that will support as much as 180MW of new data center development. Interxion has 15 facilities in the Frankfurt metro area today.

And Stream Data Centers’ new facility in Phoenix now has some key new connectivity. Last week the company announced that Cox Business has signed on as a key fiber provider at the company’s Goodyear campus. Cox Business has one of the most extensive networks in the Phoenix metro area, while Stream Data Centers’ facility will go live in August 2020 and will be the first of five.
