UFD Lights Up

February 4th, 2020 by · 1 Comment

No, not that way, what kind of site do you think this is!  United Fiber & Data today announced plans to offer wavelength services over its newly built fiber network, offering links of up to 600G. It’s the company’s first foray into lit bandwidth, moving on up the stack from dark fiber.

UFD has deployed gear from Ekinops to light its longhaul route between northern Virginia and the New York metro area as well as around their NY/NJ metro footprint. With Ekinops’ 600G FlexRate hardware and Celestis NMS software in place, they will have the new services online by the end of Q1.

Last summer UFD completed its unique fiber route, avoiding the heavily used I-95 corridor entirely and taking a western path through York PA. The addition of lit services in and between two of the biggest bandwidth markets on the planet takes the company into a new phase of its operations. They recently brought in Felipe J. Alvarez as CEO as part of that transition.

We have several homes in the near future here in NY and the residents are super excited about this. It’s time to bring ingenuity to infrastructure and take technology in a new direction. Thanks for sharing this article.
