Thursday Roundup: CrossLake, Sparkle, 123Net, ServerFarm

A few quick takes both national and global:

CrossLake Fiber has brought in some engineering and construction expertise for its Lake Ontario crossing. They selected Hylan to do the heavy lifting on connecting up the unrepeatered submarine cable at the shore end near Buffalo, New York, linking it up to other infrastructure to create the full alternative NYC/Toronto route. CrossLake’s project is two years in the making.

Sparkle is adding some more depth to its global network with a couple more PoPs closer to home. The international arm of TIM Group has opened two new points of presence in the Italian hub of Milan, one at DATA4 in Cornaredo and the other at Equinix Milan 2. That gives them 5 PoPs in Milan now.

123Net has hooked up another data center up in Michigan. They are working with Switch to hook up the Pyramid Campus in Grand Rapids, a 1M square foot hyperscale campus. Grand Rapids is just 2.8ms from the key bandwidth hubs in Chicago, and Switch’s facility there caters to both Michigan enterprises and those interested in that proximity to Chicago alongside lower taxes and such.

And ServerFarm is has raised a bundle of money to improve its balance sheet with the help of TD Securities. They have completed a $200M credit facility aimed at recapitalizing the business and driving accelerated growth. ServerFarm operates facilities in Chicago, Atlanta, central Washington, Toronto, and London.
