Yesterday, Zayo announced plans to add another data center location to its zColo footprint. They are moving into a new facility in New Jersey, or more specifically Piscataway, which an anchor tenant providing the necessary rationale for expansion.

The new data center presence will consist of some 47,000 square feet and 5MW of critical power. That space will be tethered directly to the company’s presence in 165 Halsey in Newark, which lies about 20 miles to the northeast. Zayo also has three of its interconnection-focused colo facilities across the Hudson River in New York City.

Last month, Zayo announced plans to split its business in half, with the infrastructure going one way and the enterprise services going the other. That process will take a year though, which is a lot longer than the rumor mill regarding other strategic alternatives. Whether anything comes out of those rumors is anybody’s guess, but at least it will be an interesting few quarters.
