America Movil Takes Aim at US Enterprise Market

June 6th, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

The Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim is making a new move on the US telecommunications marketplace. America Movil announced plans today for a new US-based subsidiary, Claro Enterprise Solutions LLC.

The unit, formerly Telmex USA, will focus on the enterprise market from the SMB to the multinational. According to the company’s website, the product set will include DIA, MPLS, Ethernet, SDWAN and mobility services for all customers, complemented by IoT solutions and IT services for customers with broader needs.

With mounting regulatory hurdles and not as much room to grow in Mexico these days as there once was, it’s natural for America Movil to seek opportunities on the international stage. A few years back the company was chasing several European assets, buying chunks of KPN and Telecom Austria but meeting with some resistance, especially in the case of KPN. Of course America Movil already has a substantial presence on the consumer front in the US via its Tracfone subsidiary.

Claro Enterprise Solutions will be based in Florida and led by Jorge Rodríguez.
