Fiber M&A: DF&I Makes First Move in VA, MD

April 4th, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

A new fiber player founded by some familiar faces has made its first move in Virginia and Maryland. Dark Fiber and Infrastructure (DF&I) has announced an agreement to buy the fiber and conduit assets of USA FIBER.

USA Fiber was focused on the DC metro area, and in particular had built out a new, unique Potomac fiber crossing, winning a key enterprise customer and hooking up Sabey’s Intergate.Ashburn facility.

DF&I was founded by Judd Carothers and John Schmitt, former FiberLight executives and well-known fixtures in the region’s fiber market. They were also both previously a big part of USA Fiber, so one should probably think about today’s deal as a reboot of sorts. DF&I will be a pure play infrastructure provider aiming at dark fiber and conduit, and we can expect them to have further moves in mind.
