CyrusOne Prepares a Chicago Push

September 15th, 2016 by · 1 Comment

CyrusOne seems to have some big plans for Chicago.  After buying CME Group’s facility back in the Spring for $130M, the data center REIT has followed up with an adjacent land purchase.

cyrusone-auroraCyrusOne has purchased 23 acres at 32W 130 Molitor Road in Aurora to go with the 15 acres of developable property they already had.  They plan to develop the property over the next few years, integrating it into a shared ecosystem with the former CME Group data center and the 90-MW power substation nearby.

That will be more than enough to be going on with for at least a few years I’d think.  I suspect we will soon hear about their actual pans for a new facility.  CyrusOne sold some 3.4M shares of stock last month, and the first thing on the list of uses for the cash was to fund growth capex.
