Cologix Moves Deeper Into Florida, Buys Colo5

September 5th, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

In the interconnection-focused segment of the data center space, Cologix has been very acquisitive since its creation a few years back.  Yesterday they struck again with their ninth purchase and their second in Florida, closing the purchase of Colo5.

colo5Colo5 operates two facilities, located in Jacksonville and Lakeland, that cover some 225,000 square feet of space.  Cologix was already in Jacksonville, having purchased JMMR just under a year ago.   The extra 125,000 square feet of data center space in Jacksonville will complement that nicely, giving them a lot of space to work with beyond the 9,000 they started with at JMMR.

Meanwhile the 100K square feet of space that Colo5 just opened last fall in Lakeland (between Tampa and Orlando) will be a new market for Cologix.  As Lakeland isn’t as much of a Tier 2/3 market for interconnection itself, this seems to suggest a more pure colo and disaster recovery opportunity for them.
