Fibertech Deploys 100G Ethernet In the Metro

September 18th, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

The Rochester-based fiber builder and operator Fibertech has brought in bigger pipes for enterprises across their footprint. They’re using Ciena’s switches and packet-optical technology in a deployment of 100G Ethernet services in the metro.

fibertechmapFibertech doesn’t toot its own horn very often, but they’ve been steadily expanding their footprint on multiple fronts for many years now. Their network now connects more than 8,000 on-net buildings across 29 markets in the northeast, mid-Atlantic, and midwest. Lately they’ve been working on expansions in Delaware, Ohio and Connecticut.

For its part, Ciena has been having a very good 2013 after a series of rebuilding years, posting unexpectedly big numbers for several straight quarters now. They definitely seem to be getting a bigger share of the technology upgrades (100G, Carrier Ethernet, etc) that are sweeping through the carriers than with the prior generation.
